Location : Flint, MI Pay Range : $90,000+ Summary : The Flint Center for Educational Excellence seeks an experienced communications strategist to serve as the Director of Communications. In this role, you will work closely with our leadership and programming teams to develop and implement communication and branding strategies. Responsibilities include marketing research, messaging, brand development, planning, and content creation. We are looking for a creative individual with strong writing and editing skills who can produce persuasive content, manage goals and deadlines, and manage media relations. The Director of Communications will oversee all communications, marketing, and branding strategies undertaken by the Flint Center; and will report to the Chief Operations Officer and General Counsel. Regular local and regional travel will be required. Position Responsibilities : Strategic & External Communications Develop and implement a creative communications strategy that integrates internal efforts across initiatives and cultivates relationships with target audiences, stakeholders, donors, volunteers, and media. Build strong relationships with executive leaders to enhance branding and fundraising. Maintain relationships with media contacts and journalists. Monitor media coverage and respond to inquiries with accurate information. Draft press releases, media pitches, and related materials. Manage external marketing vendors and projects. Internal Communications & Content Creation Oversee organization-wide communications regarding initiatives, strategies, and personnel changes. Collaborate on promotional and educational materials for meetings, policymakers, and stakeholders. Develop internal processes for communication requests and conduct staff meetings on these processes. Research and interview stakeholders to gather storytelling content. Website & Social Media Management Oversee website content and social media strategies. Develop multi-site social media campaigns to increase awareness and engagement. Coordinate content creation with site-based teams. Analyze social media metrics to evaluate campaign effectiveness. Project Management & Event Support Coordinate with departments, partners, and vendors on communication strategies. Assist with production and mailing oversight. Ensure project milestones are met with stakeholders. Plan and organize virtual and in-person events. Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field; master's preferred. Experience in the nonprofit sector is a plus. Minimum of 8 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or journalism. Experience with web content management, social media, analytics, and content creation. Experience in event planning and management. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities (SKA) : Ability to thrive in a results-driven, entrepreneurial environment emphasizing equity, authenticity, and excellence. Strong storytelling skills tailored to diverse audiences. Knowledge of media relations strategies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, and Loomly; understanding of graphic design, print, and video production processes.
